Kate Bishop
My recent focus has been on looking for beauty in my immediate environment: corners of rooms in an empty house, objects left on a table, what I see from a window. I choose a particular area because of the quality of light, the juxtaposition of objects, or a feeling I associate with the space.I often begin my ink drawings with a continuous line. This allows me to embrace accidents, imperfections and the overlapping and shifting perspectives of the right and left eye. I use ink or watercolour washes to suggest light, shadow and three-dimensionality.
In my acrylic paintings, I work with transparent layers of expressive colour to convey light, form and mood. My subjects range from the everyday to remembered landscapes. |
