Beatrice Roche is a Canadian landscape painter whose work is deeply inspired by her lifelong connection to nature. Born in France, she immigrated to Canada as a child in 1965, and was instantly captivated by the lush green canopies and diverse landscapes of her new home. Family travels further nurtured her appreciation for Canada’s rugged rock formations, shimmering lakes, and endless forests, instilling a lasting sense of wonder that continues to fuel her artistic journey. Encouraged by her older brother’s artistic pursuits, Beatrice Roche developed an early passion for painting. Art quickly became her favorite subject in school, but it wasn’t until retirement that she was able to fully dedicate herself to it. She immersed herself in learning—studying art books, visiting galleries, taking classes, and, most importantly, practicing.
Now an avid plein air painter, Beatrice Roche works primarily in oils, occasionally incorporating acrylics, and using gouache for sketch studies. Painting outdoors presents unique challenges—shifting light, changing weather, and persistent insects—but these very obstacles heighten her awareness of the delicate beauty of the natural world. Her work is not just about capturing a scene; it is a personal journal of the landscapes that have moved her, whether a vast horizon, a lone tree, the reflection of light on water, or a simple winding path. Driven by a deep concern for climate change and the loss of natural habitats, Beatrice Roche sees her art as a way to celebrate and preserve the landscapes she loves. Each painting is a tribute to the fleeting beauty of nature, reminding us to pause, observe, and appreciate the world around us. |
