Beautiful Mystery

Acrylic on canvas with mixed media and resin
24″H x 36″W x 1.5″D
Price: $1099

Turned to Orion in a desert sky
Pyramids of Giza are majestic.
Preciseness of the stones can testify
to a marvel that’s pure mathematics.
Pointing always to eternal heaven
these monuments were tombs for kings and queens.
World Wonder that’s oldest of the seven
determined to live on or so it seems.
Many questions about the mystery
how could these humans move gigantic stones?
Could E.T.s have been in our history?
We hunger with the beauty of unknowns.
How tiny appears the Cairo vista
against The Great Pyramids of Giza.

Passion Transfigured

Acrylic with marker, ink and resin on canvas
30″H x 24″W x 1.5″D
PRICE: $899.00

The Passion Flower
My love gave me a passion-flower.
I nursed it well – so brief its hour!
My eyelids ache, my throat is dry:
He told me that it would not die.
My love and I are one, and yet
Full oft my cheeks with tears are wet –
So sweet the night is and the bower!
My love gave me a passion-flower.
So sweet! Hold fast my hands. Can God
Make all this joy revert to sod,
And leave to me but this for dower –
My love gave me a passion-flower.

The Glory of Morning

Acrylic and marker with resin on wood panel
40″H x 30″W x 2.0″D
PRICE: $1499.00

The Morning Glory by Helen Waddell
The morning glory climbs above my head,
Pale flowers of white and purple, blue and red.
I am disquieted.

Down in the withered grasses something stirred;
I thought it was his footfall that I heard.
Then a grasshopper chirred.

I climbed the hill just as the new moon showed,
I saw him coming on the southern road.
My heart lays down its load.

First Light

Acrylic on wood panel with mixed media and resin
48″H x 60″W x 1.5″D
Price: $2999

“Now the stars have faded
In the purple chill,
Lo, the sun is kindling
On the eastern hill.
Tree by tree the forest
Takes the golden tinge,
As the shafts of glory
Pierce the summit’s fringe.
Rock by rock the ledges
Take the rosy sheen,
As the tide of splendor
Floods the dark ravine.
Like a shining angel
At my cabin door,
Shod with hope and silence,
Day is come once more.
Then, as if in sorrow
That you are not here,
All his magic beauties
Gray and disappear.”

Hortensias abstraits

Acrylic with wax and resin on wood panel (framed)
10″H x 8″W x 1.5″D
PRICE: $249.00

Also known as bigleaf hydrangea or florist’s hydrangea, French hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla) is a deciduous or semi-evergreen shrub notable for its huge flower heads and preference for shade. A garden hydrangea is a woody, deciduous shrub measuring 5-6 feet or more tall by about as wide at maturity. Hydrangeas flower in late spring or early summer with long-lasting blooms that may last for five to nine weeks. French hydrangeas are unique in that their flower colour may be manipulated by changing the pH of the soil. Its large leaves, in shades of medium to dark matte green provide the background to the two different bloom forms: 1). Mophead or hortensia blooms, or 2). Lacecap blooms. Pink hydrangeas symbolize heartfelt emotion. Blue hydrangeas symbolize frigidity and apology. White hydrangeas symbolize boasting or bragging. Purple hydrangeas symbolize a desire to deeply understand someone.

A Dream of Spring

Acrylic with resin on canvas (framed)
48″H x 48″W x 1.5″D
PRICE: $2399.00

Lines Written in Early Spring
I heard a thousand blended notes,
While in a grove I sate reclined,
In that sweet mood when pleasant thoughts
Bring sad thoughts to the mind.

To her fair works did Nature link
The human soul that through me ran;
And much it grieved my heart to think
What man has made of man.

Through primrose tufts, in that green bower,
The periwinkle trailed its wreaths;
And ’tis my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes.

The birds around me hopped and played,
Their thoughts I cannot measure:--
But the least motion which they made
It seemed a thrill of pleasure.

The budding twigs spread out their fan,
To catch the breezy air;
And I must think, do all I can,
That there was pleasure there.

If this belief from heaven be sent,
If such be Nature’s holy plan,
Have I not reason to lament
What man has made of man?

Where the Sunflower Wishes to Go

Acrylic and ink with resin on canvas
60″H x 30″W x 1.5″D
Price: $2499

Ah! Sunflower, weary of time,
Who countest the steps of the sun,
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the traveler’s journey is done;
Where the youth pined away with desire,
And the pale virgin shrouded in snow,
Arise from their graves, and aspire
Where my sunflower wishes to go!

Les roses trémières

Acrylic with wax and resin on wood panel (framed)
10″H x 8″W x 1.5″D
PRICE: $249.00 SOLD

A classic cottage garden staple, hollyhocks (Alcea rosea) bloom mid-summer with numerous flowers on tall spikes. Many of the most common varieties are biennials, meaning they complete their lifecycle over 2 years. The first year is spent growing foliage and storing energy. In the second year, the stalks shoot up, flowers bloom and seeds form. However, there are also many varieties that behave like short-lived perennials and will flower in their first year when planted early enough in spring or started indoors in winter. Other than staking and cutting the stalks back after flowering, hollyhocks really don’t require much maintenance, but they do need to be protected from insects and fungal diseases such as rust. Hollyhocks support the lifecycle of painted lady butterflies as a host plant for their caterpillars and also attract other pollinators such as bees and hummingbirds.

Eden - 2019.2

Acrylic with resin on wood panel
42″H x 36″W x 1.5″D
PRICE: $1799.00

‘Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the world…
Mine is the sunlight
Mine is the morning
Born of the one light Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise ev’ry morning
God’s recreation of the new day.’

Maligne Lake, Alberta

Acrylic with resin on canvas
16”H x 20”W x 1.5”D
Price: $549

Maligne Lake is a lake in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. It is famed for the colour of its water, the surrounding peaks, the three glaciers visible from the lake and Spirit Island, a frequently photographed islet. My abstracted painting of this iconic lake is criss-crossed with horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines suggesting the shattering activity of humankind on what is a gift of beauty and inspiration.

Georgian Bay – August Morning

Acrylic and mixed media with resin on canvas (framed),
30″H x 24″W x 1.5″D
PRICE: $899.00

Eastern Georgian Bay is part of the southern edge of the Canadian Shield, granite bedrock exposed by the glaciers at the end of the last ice age, about 11,000 years ago. The granite rock formations and windswept eastern white pine are characteristic of the islands and much of the shoreline of the bay. The rugged beauty of the area inspired landscapes by artists of the Group of Seven.

Nasturtiums

Acrylic and ink with resin on canvas board (framed)
28”H x 22”W x 1.5”D
PRICE: $799.00

Lines to a Nasturtium – A Lover Muses
Flame-flower, Day-torch, Mauna Loa,
I saw a daring bee, today, pause, and soar,
Into your flaming heart;
Then did I hear crisp crinkled laughter
As the furies after tore him apart?
A bird, next, small and humming,
Looked into your startled depths and fled….
Surely, some dread sight, and dafter
Than human eyes as mine can see,
Set the stricken air waves drumming
In his flight.

Day-torch, Flame-flower, cool-hot Beauty,
I cannot see, I cannot hear your fluty
Voice lure your loving swain,
But I know one other to whom you are in beauty
Born in vain;
Hair like the setting sun,
Her eyes a rising star,
Motions gracious as reeds by Babylon, bar
All your competing;
Hands like, how like, brown lilies sweet,
Cloth of gold were fair enough to touch her feet . . . .
Ah, how the senses flood at my repeating,
As once in her fire-lit heart I felt the furies
Beating, beating.

Lost in Thought

Acrylic and mixed media with resin on canvas (framed)
20”H x 24”W x 2.25”D
Price: $699

“Lost in Thought” is a painting of a Georgian Bay, Ontario shoreline. I incorporated gel medium and silica sand with acrylic paint to layer the rocks and underwater ledges. I enjoyed adding these sculptural mediums to create a 3-D effect along the water’s edge. I continued to explore the use of vibrant non-representational colours to further engage the viewer.

Glorious Gladiolus

Acrylic and marker with resin on canvas
SIZE: 36”H x 30”W x 2.0”D
PRICE: $1299.00

Glorious Gladiolus
Glorious Gladiolus
Magic is in the air which you breathe,
O’ strange and lovely gladioli!
Your blade shaped leaves and tall spikes
Have caused you to be christened valiant ‘sword lily’.

Towering stately over other worthy neighbours,
You are a constant reminder of the strength of character over glory,
and the power of sincerity over artificiality.

Here are the charming salmon orange tones,
and there a glad pink dwarf stands
Why, look at the regal dew-adorned purple and the gay yellow,
Even while a red eyed white bride blushes quietly in the corner; sweet and mellow.
Every warm and passionate color,
Spreading the bewitching sheen of remembrance and love
And amongst its dazzling plethora of displays,
There are no ‘blues’ to talk of woes and melancholy days.

Offering the eye a visual cacophony of shapes and rainbows,
Representing the victorious gladiators who defeated all foes,
A jewel of this earth, August’s birthflower,
Charismatic, brilliant and beauteous
Oh! gladiolus, you are truly glorious!

Tree of Life

Acrylic with marker, ink and resin on canvas
40”H x 16”W x 1.5”D
Price: $1099

Our lives are like trees
The roots are our beliefs
The trunk are our family support system
The branches are the different paths that we can take
The leaves are the memories that we have made
The fruit are our good attributes and personality traits
The vibrant colors are the hope for the future.
